Cameroon

For Cameroonian schools — both ladders under one roof

A bilingual college runs two ladders, two marking scales and one payroll. It should not need two systems, and it should not have to pretend one arm is a translation of the other.

  • Two ladders, one office

Form 1 to Form 5, then Lower and Upper Sixth; 6ème to 3ème, then 2nde, 1ère and Terminale. Each arm keeps its own subject names, pass mark and scale — Biology and Sciences de la Vie et de la Terre are one ministry idea and two school subjects, and they are stored as two.

  • Sequences and report cards

Two sequences and an exam per term, weighted the way report cards print them; ranks 1, 2, 2, 4; a remark in the section's language. The office opens, locks and publishes each sequence.

  • Fees and APEE

Tuition, registration, APEE and exam fees in one price list; money held for others is kept apart from the school's own. A father who pays for four children gets one receipt.

Questions

Asked before you start

Can one school run both sections?
Yes. A bilingual school runs anglophone and francophone sections side by side, each with its own levels, subjects and scale, under one fee register and one payroll.
Are the absences counted in days or hours?
In days for the anglophone section and in hours for the francophone section, the way each counts them.
